Pre-teens and teens looking for babysitting jobs will learn essential lifesaving skills and build confidence in the new week-long babysitter’s boot camp, offered by the American Red Cross, Sonoma & Mendocino counties, from March 29 through April 2 (when many schools have spring break). The class gives 11- to 15-year-old babysitters critical training that can save lives using child and infant CPR and first aid.
Participants also learn about running their own babysitting business, managing their money, and leadership skills. Babysitter’s boot camp also includes disaster preparedness training, which is especially important in earthquake, flood, and wildfire regions.
Participants who pass the course receive certificates in child and infant CPR (valid for one year), first aid (valid for three years), and babysitting (no expiration). With official certification from the American Red Cross, participants can provide prospective employers with confidence that the babysitter will be responsible and know how to handle emergencies.
The course is fun and fast-paced with hands-on activities, role-plays, and lively discussions. All participants receive a babysitter’s training handbook, compact emergency reference guide, CD that includes extra games for children plus formats for creating a resume, and an attractive Red Cross portfolio that includes items like a first aid kit and emergency flashlight.
The class costs $150 and takes place Monday, March 29 through Friday, April 2 (Monday through Friday) from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. At American Red Cross, 5297 Aero Drive, Santa Rosa. This class will also be offered from June 14 through 18.
