California State Parks and Sonoma County Regional Parks are teaming up to share the value of supporting local, regional and state parks with money and time. Our community can continue to keep parks open, safe and clean by paying park fees, purchasing a park pass or making a donation. An investment of your time can help maintain and improve parks. Proceeds from this event will fund trail improvements in the parks. Park representatives will be available to share opportunities to get involved with these projects. The event will kick off with timed running and mountain biking events on Saturday. Sunday will be underscored by equestrian and youth activities including “The Great Outdoor Treasure Hunt” – a non-timed exploration of Spring Lake and Annadel that is fun for the whole family. All events start and finish at the large festival area in Spring Lake’s Oak Knolls picnic area, which will feature guest speakers, live music and outdoor retail exhibitors. There is a $6 per car parking fee at Spring Lake Regional Park. Here is a list of event details:
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 11 Mountain Bike XC Challenge – Annadel State Park (9:00am – 1:00pm) The Mountain Bike XC Challenge offers participants a timed technical and challenging route covering the length of the park on this 24-mile course. Participants will start as a group taking Canyon Trail all the way to Lake Ilsanjo, and finish descending on the well-known and very technical Rough Go Trail. What’s in-between will be disclosed on the day of the event. A shorter option will be available for intermediate and beginner riders. Registration for this event costs $68, and includes an event t-shirt, finisher’s meal and a cold beer. 12 Mile Run – Spring Lake to Annadel and back (9:30am – 1:30pm) Participants will start shortly after the mountain bike challenge and follow a different course that takes you through some of these parks’ most beautiful areas. You will start with an ascent up Rough Go Trail and finish on the smooth descent of Canyon Trail before returning to the Spring Lake staging area. Registration for this event costs $68, and includes an event t-shirt, finisher’s meal and a cold beer. SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 12 Outdoor Gear Expo at Spring Lake Regional Park (9:00am – 3:00pm) The outdoor gear expo is the “big gig” at Spring Lake Regional Park on Sunday. Come and check the cool new outdoor gear and gadgets! This is a free event. Poker Ride at Annadel State Park (9:00am – 1:00pm) Enjoy a leisurely 6.5 mile, 3-hour ride in Annadel State Park around scenic Lake Ilsanjo. Experience shaded fern-lined redwood canyons, oak woodlands, grasslands and meadows. From the shores of Lake Ilsanjo, look for cattails, waterfowl, muskrat, deer, and jackrabbits. Ride at your own pace, but be back in time for the special Cowgirl Catering lunch at the staging area. First prize for a winning poker hand is $50 from the Sonoma County Horse Council. Additional prizes are a surprise! Registration for this event costs $40 and includes lunch and an event t-shirt. The Great Outdoor Treasure Hunt in Annadel State Park (9:00am – 1:00pm) Sponsored by REI Santa Rosa, The Great Outdoor Treasure Hunt is an activity for friends and families to come experience Annadel State Park in a fun orienteering-style event. Participants will check in and collect a map with directions to various check-points within the park, then navigate to the check points and collect markers. Included is a brown-bag lunch and re-charge stations along the trails. Prizes will be given randomly to participants, and a medal and t-shirt are also included. There is no registration fee for this event.
