Dental Surgery Center Serves Needy

PRESS RELEASE

Oct. 6th was the Grand Opening of the Northern California's First Dental Surgery Center for Needy Children and Families

The new facility serves 240 kids monthly from Napa, Marin, Sonoma, Mendocino and Lake Counties!

The Pediatric Dental Initiative (PDI) will focus on providing low-income families with free and low-cost dental treatment, and tooth-decay prevention education. The new center in Windsor, Calif., is the only dental care facility north of San Francisco specifically established to address the major health epidemic of untreated tooth decay among low-income families.

As many as 3,000 children under age five in California's North Coast region suffer tooth decay so severe they require anesthesia to receive dental treatment. Significant numbers of children go without treatment because families who are dependent on Medi-Cal are unable to travel long distances – up to 200 miles – to reach facilities that provide subsidized dental care.

The Pediatric Dental Initiative of the North Coast (PDI) is a non-profit organization founded by child health advocates in California's Sonoma, Mendocino and Lake Counties. The organization is dedicated to the prevention and treatment of Early Childhood Caries (ECC) through education services and specialized, safe surgical dental treatment for children, and people with developmental disabilities, regardless of their insurance status or their ability to pay. Due to high demand, PDI has expanded its service area, and now also welcomes families from Napa, Marin, and beyond. The location of PDI is:
