Special League for Special Children- Wonder League Opening Game April 14, at 1:30 PM
HEALDSBURG (CA) – The Wonder League of Healdsburg is kicking off their 2012 season on April 14. . It provides an opportunity for children with special needs to play baseball! The day begins with the singing of the Star Spangled Banner at 1:30. Play will last until about 3 PM.
The Wonder League Field is located at Foss Creek Healdsburg Community Center, 1557 Healdsburg Avenue.
Each child is given an opportunity to hit the ball and to score a run during each inning. Wonder League team members are assigned buddies who assist them in hitting the ball and “running” the bases. Buddies can be anyone who wishes to volunteer their time to give a child the gift of baseball. The Healdsburg baseball team will be buddies at some of the games, and, of course, Rotarians from both the Sunrise and Noon Clubs will provide buddy and off-the-field support to participants and their families.
The Wonder League is a program of the Healdsburg Rotary Sunrise Club. Other major Wonder League sponsors include Wells Fargo Bank, Big John’s, Exchange Bank, Summit State Bank, Eddinger Enterprises, Healdsburg Signs, McConnell Chevrolet, Safeway, WC Sanderson Ford, and Silveira Healdsburg.
We cannot change or cure the medical issues life has dealt children with disabilities. What we can do is provide them with an opportunity to experience the joy and benefits that come from playing our national pastime—baseball. Come be a part of the Wonder of Baseball in the making.
