Free Movie nights in Petaluma also support local charities. The showings include live music, children’s activities, food and visits from local clubs and generate income for local youth activities through raffle ticket sales and is run by volunteers. “It truly is free—the movie, all the children’s activities, face painting, bounce houses, games, etc. completely free,” says event organizer John Storck. “We provide prizes and allow a group to come each week and sell raffle tickets. Most walk away with $200-$300 for an hour of work,” Storck adds of the novel fundraising approach that has raised $8,000 for youth groups, schools, PTA groups and other non-profits over the past three years. Films begin at dusk at Luchessi Park, 320 N. McDowell Blvd. Petalumamovies.com for more information.
