YWCA Sonoma County Receives a Telly Award
YWCA Sonoma County, provider domestic violence services, received a Telly Award for its informational video about domestic violence. Each year the Annual Telly Awards honors the best work from the most respected advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators, and corporate video departments in the world.
The video provides a window into the cycle of domestic violence, how it affects women and their children, and the services the YWCA provides to them. It opens with the voice of a child calling 911, reporting that his mom’s old boyfriend was trying to hurt his mom and he needs help. The YWCA Sonoma County operates A Special Place Therapeutic Preschool, a free, full-time, year-round preschool for children who have been identified as “at-risk” of abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
The YWCA also hosts the only confidential Safe House in Sonoma County for women and their children fleeing domestic violence. Safe House provides shelter for up to 8 weeks, at which time they may choose to enter the Adobe Program which is a two-year transitional program for women and their children transitioning back into the community. They receive counseling, support groups, childcare information, career services, and housing services.
“Domestic violence is difficult to talk about and yet it’s one of the most serious problems in our community,” said Denise Frey, YWCA Sonoma County Executive Director and CEO. “Conveying the impact of the YWCA’s programs on the community we serve is critical to the long-term success of the agency.”
