Ballet Califia is a Sonoma County Treasure.

Tucked away in the small town of Cotati are two world class dancers, Shelley Scott and David McNaughton. Both have danced for the New York City Ballet and the San Francisco Ballet.

They now teach at Ballet Califia. There are classes for all - kids and adults, beginning, advanced and on pointe.

They also produce, stage and choreograph ambitious productions, like Swan Lake and Tom Sawyer.

And every year they present The Nutcracker at the Spreckels Performing Arts Center in Rohnert Park. You haven't seen The Nutcracker until you've seen Shelley and David's choreography. They bring out the strengths of their community of dancers and interject a fresh and fun atmosphere to the traditional tale of Christmas dreams. This is truly a fun holiday family event.

World Class Experience.

Ballet Califia is a non-profit dance company and ballet school created to bring the experience of dance to our community. This is their fifteenth year of producing quality ballet performances at the Spreckels Performing Arts Center in Rohnert Park.

Ballet Califia's executive director is Shelley Scott. Artistic director for the company is David McNaughton. Shelley and David have both been principal dancers for the New York City Ballet and the San Francisco Ballet. David also composes music and has written and choreographed several original ballets. Shelley is a costume designer and has sewn most of the costumes for the fifteen years of Ballet Califia's productions. David designs and builds sets and is also a master at painting amazing scenes for the enormous full stage backdrops.

With their world-class professional background, this multi-talented couple brings their creative energy to each of their productions and to each of their dance students. It's quite an experience to learn from one of the last ballerinas to work with George Balanchine and to dance with a professional who could make an audience gasp in unison with his leaps.
