Blaze Burns through Clearlake & Lower Lake

A fire that began on August 13 has ripped through 4,000 acres and destroyed more than 175 structures in Lower Lake and Clearlake. More than 1,600 fire personnel are fighting the blaze, dubbed the Clayton Fire, which is 20 percent contained. An arson suspect has been arrested. The following areas have been evacuated: Clayton Creek Road, Morgan Valley Road, North Spruce Grove Road to Jerusalem Grade Road, and Highway 53 at the Highway 29 junction north to Highway 20. Jerusalem Grade is under advisory evacuation. The Seventh Day Adventist Church in Lakeport, Kelseyville High School in Kelseyville, and Twin Pines Casino in Middletown are all serving as evacuation centers.
