Sun–Powered Fun

Visit a midway, and see a whole array of what amount to enormous mechanical gadgets. Now imagine all of that machinery powered by the sun. It’s the premise of the free Maker Studio: Solar Carnival Rides workshop, where kids will learn how to make miniature sun-powered rides out of cardboard and solar-powered cells. Participants will divide up into teams of two and work on a Ferris wheel, whirligig, super-high swing, or other mini-amusement park ride. The class, suitable for kids in grades 4–6, will be taught in English and Spanish and will be held on August 3, 3–4:30 p.m., at the Rohnert Park–Cotati Regional Library in Rohnert Park.
