JazzFest Offers Free Online Kids’ Music Classes

Music of all kinds helps children connect to and express themselves. But the pandemic and other restrictions, such as financial circumstances, may keep budding bards from fully blossoming. The Healdsburg Jazz Festival aims to make music education easier with its Virtual Jazz Village Campus for K–5, a free series of children’s classes taught by educators, multi-instrumentalists, vocalists, and dancers with decades of experience. Among the instructors are Maria De La Rosa, who will teach kids about son jarocho, a music genre from Veracruz, Mexico; Bryan Dyer, who will introduce the rhythms of New Orleans; and world-renowned percussionist Keith Terry, who will show students how to turn their bodies into drums. The classes are free and may be viewed multiple times. For more information and to register, go to healdsburgjazz.org/virtual-jazz-village-campus
