Ever Heard a Japanese Drum or Bamboo Flute?

The thunderous rhythms of taiko, a kind of Japanese drumming, were first heard in the Bay Area in the 1930s. Thanks to local performers, taiko is still a part of the Sonoma County musical landscape. Hear this wall-shaking music at the virtual Matsuri: Japanese Arts Festival, where, along with taiko drumming, a shakuhachi (bamboo flute) concert and judo demonstrations will be featured. The event will be held on May 15, 6:30–8:30 p.m., and is free. To receive the Zoom link, register at sonomamatsuri.org/festival
