Expand your student’s horizons this summer!

7th and 8th graders across Sonoma, Napa, and Marin Counties are invited to level up on videography, create original art, learn how vaccines work, and more in hands-on, one-week courses this July at Quest Forward Academy.

Make the most of the summer with a choice of exciting, thought-provoking, skill-building courses designed for 7th and 8th graders.

They’ll see an innovative high school in action and get to know teachers in a fun, welcoming environment.

Class sizes are limited to ensure a high-quality experience for all.

Choose one course per week, July 12–16 and July 19–23.

Art Exploration

Students will spend the week exploring different art media and techniques. Students will practice mark-making skills and use dry, wet, and digital media. In addition to the fundamentals of how to create art pieces, students will also engage in working inside and outside and have a portfolio of work at the end of the week.

Creative Writing and Nature

Students will learn how to write creatively about the diverse landscape of Sonoma County and develop the skill of writing critically about the world around them. Students will tour Jack London’s local home, experimental garden, and vineyard. Note: Students will need transportation to/from sites each day.

CSI: Forensic Anthropology and DNA Analysis

Students will learn how DNA technologists use crime scene evidence to identify a suspect or a victim by creating a DNA fingerprint. Students will also learn techniques to identify human remains by looking directly at the hidden parts of our body… the bones!

Interactive Sonoma County History and Geography

Students will embark on in-person, guided visits to local historically-relevant sites (Santa Rosa Rural Cemetery, Luther Burbank Home and Gardens, and more) to learn about important people, places, and events in local history. Students will understand how that history shapes our current reality, and how geographical features interface with communities. Note: Students will need transportation to/from sites each day.

Immune Systems and Vaccines

In this introduction to the immune system, virology, epidemiology, and vaccine development, students will learn about immune cells, assess a disease outbreak, learn the steps epidemiologists take to identify “Patient 0,” and understand how different types of vaccines are created. They will also research an immunodeficiency or autoimmune disease of their choice.

Storytelling with Video

Students will create a one-minute video story, starting with an idea for a project and then they will complete the script, storyboard, filming, production, and post-production steps. Through the process, students will improve their understanding of narrative stories. Plus, they will develop familiarity with standard tools for creating videos that are available on most smartphones.
