Kaleidoscope Camp for LGBTQ+ High Schoolers and Allies

Kaleidoscope Camp is available to students entering the 9th through 12th grades for the 2024-2025 school year.

Kaleidoscope camp is a week-long summer camp open to all LGBTQ+ identifying middle schoolers and allies. The goal of this camp is to build community and connections in a safe, fun, respectful and accepting space. We will focus on local activism and project-based learning together. Students will have the opportunity to engage in activism either through creating a zine/resource guide, tabling to promote the club, or partake in local Sonoma County Pride events. We will also have community building circles for students to express themselves in a judgment-free space amongst their peers.

Allison is an experienced educator and community member who has facilitated public-school based LGBTQ+ clubs in a middle school setting and college setting.

Allison also has much experience participating with her clubs at local pride parades and tabling.

5-Minute Festival Camp

Welcome to the 5 Minute Festival, an innovative summer camp where creativity meets versatility in the world of live theater and film. Here, students have the unique opportunity to choose their path in either live theater or filmmaking, crafting short plays or films in their preferred genre. The theater program offers a deep dive into the performing arts, enabling students to act, write, direct, and master key stagecraft skills. Meanwhile, the film camp encompasses the comprehensive skill set introduced in our horror film camp, minus the horror element, covering sound design, cinematography, editing, and more, applicable to any genre of their choice.

The climax of this extraordinary camp is the 5 Minute Festival, a dynamic showcase where students present their creations, whether it’s a gripping live performance or a captivating short film. This festival not only celebrates the students’ hard work and talent but also brings to light the vibrant synergy between the dramatic arts and cinematic expression. Hearts & Daggers: Spoken Word Camp for Ages 9-13

Are you the one always writing in your journal? The one who lives for the open mic? The one who is always writing verse or poems or thoughts and you can’t stop even if you tried? The one who wants to write, wants to speak, but has never even put two lines together?

Then this camp just might be for you! Hearts & Daggers is a spoken-word camp for youth ages 11-15. For two weeks, campers will develop both writing as well as performance of their own verses, songs, poems, slam, and small stories. With fun, interactive exercises as well as time to write campers will explore their own themes as well as this year’s theme: hearts and daggers.

Along with individual pieces campers will also work together to write group poems as well as perform them. We will have daily open mics, writing exercises, performance exercises, movement exercises, improv, and zine-making to help campers create work that they are willing to share in our end of camp Spoken-Word Showcase.

Led by award-winning slam poet, author, and spoken-word artist Meliza Bañales, this camp aims to help youth express themselves better and get artistically organized as well as support each other. Bañales has a storied 27+ career as a Spoken-Word Teaching-Artist having also toured repeatedly in the United States as well as in Canada, Mexico, Cuba, and Europe.

Join experienced Environmental Educator, Allison Ho, in two-week extravaganza of fun and learning in nature. With mornings full of exciting and educational outdoor activities and afternoons for exploration of our beautiful rural campus, this camp is sure to keep kids occupied while they are home for the summer. Keep an eye out for sample activities uploaded soon.

Activities may include nature journals, community building circles, indoor and outdoor gardening, wildlife identification walks, habitat studies and conservation work, and more!

All campers must arrive with weather-appropriate clothing, sturdy, closed-toed shoes with socks, water, and lunch for the day. Some snacks will be provided. Keep in mind that your child will be outside for the majority of the day and plan for the weather!

Horror Film Camp

Are You Afraid Yet? Dare to embark on a thrilling journey at Camp Get Me Out of Here, a two-week summer camp designed to immerse you in the chilling world of Horror Film. In the first week, plunge into the art of storytelling, where you’ll craft your own eerie narrative and learn the technical prowess to bring your vision to life. Dive deep into the essentials of horror filmmaking, including directing your viewers’ attention, sound design that sends shivers down the spine, composition techniques to evoke fear, basic cinematography to capture the essence of dread, and editing skills to piece together your nightmare.

As the moon rises on the second week, you’ll join forces with your fellow campers, forming a crew to breathe life into a horror short film. Choose your role based on the skills honed in the first week and execute your segment with precision. Enhance your experience with guest speakers from the local independent film scene, offering valuable insights into the real-world intricacies of filmmaking.

The climax of your camp experience is a festival where your work, a testament to your newfound horror filmmaking skills, will be showcased. Camp Get Me Out of Here is not just a summer camp; it’s a portal to the realm of horror, waiting for you to leave your mark. Are you ready to tell your story?

This camp runs from 9 am to 4 pm with one hour for lunch and time for speakers. High School and Middle School students will work separately, but the festival will be all together.

Music in Nature Camp (Age 4-8)

Join us for a two-week camp for ages 4-8 where we will together be immersed in music and nature through various activities such as take-home DIY instruments with upcycled materials, jamming in nature, dance and movement and listening to different kinds of music with nature-inspired influences. We will also focus on our sense of hearing when taking mindful guided walks and listen to bird songs, trees blowing in the wind, and other natural sounds we may pick-up on. All participants will get to take home their creations.

Arts & Crafts Camp

Children ages 4-8 are invited to sign up for Willows Workshop’s Arts & Crafts camp! Get messy and get creative with a wide variety of materials and mediums. Instructor Cori Simons has experience teaching art to those 3-18 and is ready to encourage kids to try something new or build on skills they have developed elsewhere. Whether your child loves to create sculptures with recycled materials or produce life-size murals in chalk, something will catch their interest!
