The North Bay Science Discovery Day requires a year-long planning process to recruit sponsors, sign up and coordinate exhibitors, promote, and finally to orchestrate the actual day of the event.
The goal is to have a special STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) event FREE to families in the North Bay, which is all done with volunteer efforts.
Begun with the inspiration of the North Bay Leadership Council and an NSF grant through UCSF's Bay Area Science Festival, the Buck Institute recruited a volunteer team.
Our first year in 2011 we welcomed 4,000 visitors, in 2012 we had 8,000 visitors, in 2013 there were 10,000 visitors, and in 2014 and 2015 there were over 12,000 visitors. We have grown from 30 exhibitors to over 90 exhibitors with exciting activities for kids.
