SCRA is proud to offer many classes on a wide range of topics.Our classes include:

  • Technician license class for getting your first license
  • General and Extra study halls for more advanced licenses
  • Morse code class
  • Kit assembly class

The SCRA’s repeaters are open to all licensed radio amateurs. Our net meets on the linked 147.315 system every Tuesday night at 7 pm.

Community Service


The SCRA is dedicated to serving and supporting the community through volunteering and communications. Our volunteer opportunities include:

  • Providing communications for local bike and other events benefiting local non- profits.
  • Demonstrating amateur radio at public events.
  • Preparing ourselves and the community for disasters large and small.

Activities


SCRA members get to participate in many fun and educational activities throughout the year. These activities include:

  • Radio demonstration at the Pacific Coast Air Museum’s annual Wings over Wine Country air show.
  • Radio demonstration at the North Bay Science Discovery Day, and other science fairs.
  • Our annual Holiday Party, with lots of great prizes.
  • Our annual miniDXpedition and camping trip.
  • And many more!

Field Day


Field Day is one of the SCRA’s biggest events of the year. Field Day is a national contest where ham radio operators spend 24 hours trying to talk to as many other ham radio operators as possible.

Field Day occurs every third full weekend in June. The SCRA sets up at the Piner Youth Park on Fulton Road in Santa Rosa. The setup is open to the public.

Membership


SCRA membership is open to anyone interested in amateur radio, licensed or not. Membership dues are $24 a year for an individual, with special discounts for families and hams under 18.Benefits include:

  • Access to Short Skip, our monthly publication, full of informative articles and timely news.
  • Access to our Google Group, where questions can be answered by our knowledgable members.
  • The ability to have articles published in Short Skip and the Web site.
  • Access to exclusive tours and activities, including miniDXpedition, NASA Ames Research Center, and more.

Meetings


SCRA meetings occur at 7 PM on the first Wednesday of each month at the Luther Burbank Art and Garden Center, located at 2050 Yulupa Avenue in Santa Rosa. Each meeting features an entertaining and informative program about a topic of interest to hams.

All are welcome to attend the meetings, and there is no charge for admission. Directions and programs can be found at our website on the Meetings page.

Purpose


The SCRA’s Purpose, as defined by the club By-Laws:

The purpose of this organization shall be:

  1. To promote interest in Amateur Radio, electronics technology, and communications practice.
  2. To assist fellow Amateurs in development of the radio art, and to provide educational opportunities to both Amateurs and non-Amateurs interested in radio communications.
  3. To bring before its members such topics and equipment as would improve their knowledge of the state of the art.
  4. To provide public communications services, to lend our full support and cooperation to restoring channels of communications in time of disaster, and to offer training in emergency preparedness skills.
  5. To provide better communication through all phases of Amateur operation including, but not limited to, radio repeaters.
  6. To support, among all Amateurs, lawful and responsible conduct, as embodied in the ARRL Code of Ethics.
  7. No substantial part of the activities of this corporation shall attempt to influence legislation, and no activities shall involve intervention or participation in any political campaign on behalf of any candidate for public office.
