Poetry Podia with Aisha Rivera

Join Napa County’s Poet Laureate, Aisha Rivera, for an afternoon of poetry at di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art on Saturday, November 9.

Join us for a special afternoon of poetry with Napa County Poet Laureate Aisha Rivera and local youth. Over a series of workshops held in partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Napa Valley, Rivera worked with teens to write poetry in response to unfolding electoral results. Activating Nathan Lynch’s installation of ceramic podiums, We Are Speaking, Rivera and the young writers will share their work, stepping forward to be heard.

Aisha Rivera is a California-based artist, writer, actor, and advocate. They hold a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Theatre Arts from California State University Fullerton and are the current Poet Laureate for Napa County (2023-2025 term). Rivera draws inspiration from the world around them and their life experience as a non-binary Mexican-American to create moving poems, plays, and illustrations. Aisha’s poetry has been previously published in the bilingual anthology Poetics without Borders/Poeticas Sin Fronteras and Latinas: Gender, Race & Class—Struggles in 21st Century USA, Vol 2. Rivera strives to create art that is interesting, moving, and meaningful for our current times. They believe that poetry can be a powerful tool to not only move people emotionally, but to illuminate topics that may otherwise not be talked about.
