All is Calm: The Christmas Truce 1914

The moving, true story of WWI soldiers who spontaneously laid down arms and together celebrated a warfront holiday of peace. Told in the words and songs of the men who lived it. One weekend only!

Returning for a second year, Spreckels Theatre Company proudly presents a deeply moving holiday event with All Is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914. This special, one-weekend-only production will run from December 12 to December 14, 2025, bringing to life this extraordinary true story of camaraderie and peace that emerged during the early days of World War I.

Set on Christmas Eve in 1914 along the Western Front, this production tells the remarkable tale of how, amidst the horrors of war, a song and a simple act of good will sparked an incredible night of peace. As a German soldier steps into No Man’s Land singing “Stille Nacht,” soldiers from opposing armies spontaneously set aside their weapons, share songs and stories, and unite in a brief, but unforgettable, truce. It’s a poignant reminder of the shared humanity that transcends even the most bitter of conflicts.

Told through a glorious, all-male a cappella chorale, All Is Calm weaves together the authentic words and songs of the men who experienced this historic event. Written by Peter Rothstein, with vocal arrangements by Erick Lichte and Timothy C. Takach, the production is directed by Sheri Lee Miller with the intricate vocal music directed by Lucas Sherman. The talented ensemble features Michael Arbitter, Drew Bolander, Andrew Cedeño, Ron Lam, Malcolm March, Eben Miller, Sean O’Brien, Tim Setzer, Ted Smith & Noah Vondralee-Sternhill.

All Is Calm is a captivating production that brings to life a story of hope, compassion, and unity. Music and good will have the ability to transcend even the greatest of divides, reminding us all of the unbreakable bonds of humanity, even at a time where the world is at odds.
